GAME 2 HERE WE GO
-I can't remember ever feeling less confident heading into a Red Sox playoff game than I do today
-Chris Young (who wasn't good enough to make the original playoff roster) and Deven Marrero are both playing today. This should go well
-Sox go ground out, walk, fielders choice, DOUBLE BY MOOKIE, and a groundouts by Hanley. We had 2nd and 3rd and needed him to come through there
-Here comes Drew Pomeranz ladies and gentlemen
-Two quick outs and then Altuve rips a single. He is so fucking good.
-Carlos Correa two run homer lmao all you can do is laugh
-Wow, that's just unbelievable
-Top of the second Chris Young leadoff double, steals third, Vazquez walks NOW we need to score
-Marrero is up. Regardless of what happens this should be Devers up
-Marrero strikes out SHOCKER
-Jackie RBI single there we go
-Bogaerts and Pedey strike out to end the inning
-Sox have stranded 4 runners already
-Keuchel at nearly 50 pitches through two, he doesn't have his best stuff
-George Springer solo homer in the bottom of the 3rd. 3-1 bad guys
-Houston's 1-4 hitters have now combined for 6 homers this series. It's only the third inning of Game 2
-Bregam double, Carson Smith warming up. I feel like we should bring in Price isn't this the role we have him for?
-Altuve singles. 4-1 and Pomeranz is done for the day
-Smith allows two base runners, gets an out, and now here comes Price I WANT REDEPMTION
-Bases loaded, 1 out and PRICE GETS OUT OF IT LETS GO
-Both teams go scoreless in the 4th
-Still 4-1 through 5. Price has now gone 2 2/3 without allowing a run
-Keuchel makes it through 5 2/3, in comes Devenski (their Andrew Miller basically)
-Eduardo Rodriguez in for the bottom of the 6th, allows two baserunners and gets pulled. Great
-Addison Reed is in, a bunch of guys get hits, Mookie misplays a ball, a bunch of guys get more hits and all of a sudden it's 8-1, the rout is on
-Rest of the game sucked, nothing really happened. Team look defeated though
-Final score 8-2, Astros
Final thoughts: It’s funny that we’re playing the Astros in this series. Just like us, they’re a team that was built on a core of young position players. But unlike us, their position players have kept developing. And ours….just haven’t. Look at the first four hitters in the Houston lineup. Springer, Bregman, Altuve, Correa. That’s fucking terrifying. Our lineup just doesn’t pack that punch. Bogaerts, Betts, Bradley, Benny, they’re all good but none of them scare you. We don’t have a real middle of the order power threat who’s gonna get a hit when we need it most.
And maybe that’s something we can add over the winter. JD Martinez is a free agent who a lot of people think will be a good fit. As for other changes? Farrell will probably be gone, but the post-season failings aren’t really his fault. Each of the past two years his starting pitchers have gotten shelled in the playoffs. Not a lot a manager can do about that. Probably time for a new voice though. I don’t know. “We’re on to game 3”.
