So this video is a couple of weeks old, but I found it when I was down a YouTube rabbit hole last night. I genuinely believe A-Rod was put on this Earth to analyze baseball. He just also happened to be one of the 20 best players of all time. Here he is comparing Aaron Judge's swing path to Ferris wheels and merry go rounds. It's incredible. And then Nick Swisher (TBT) makes a genuinely good point, and A-Rod just hi-jacks it and says he has a better way of explaining it to the audience. The guy can't get enough of physically demonstrating what he means in the batter's box. I love it.
As for Judge, this breakdown shows everything we needed to know about how he made the adjustments he did. He's riding his Ferris Wheel swing path to a .321/.428/1.096 triple slash line to go along with a league leading 18 homers and even five steals. With Mike Trout injured Judge has to be considered the favorite for AL MVP, right? The Astros are the best team but Altuve and Correa will likely take away votes from each other. The Indians aren't playing well enough for Lindor to win. The Red Sox are good but Mookie hasn't been as good as last year. That leaves Judge, who since he didn't play much last season is still technically a rookie. He'll likely run away with the ROY award and if he wins MVP he'll become just the third player ever to win both (Fred Lynn 1975, Ichiro 2001).
